Golden Retriever Rescue Resource (GRRR)

Animal rescue can take many forms, from an individual trying to make a difference by saving one dog--to a group of people working together for the common goal of saving many animals. Golden Retriever Rescue Resource concentrates on Golden Retrievers. As a group, they are passionately devoted to the Golden Retriever breed. All across America, local Golden Retriever organizations are working to save Goldens that show up wandering the streets or in shelters. Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc.

Almost Heaven accepts senior or "special needs" Goldens from shelters, owner give-ups, and other rescues and is a refuge for those Golden Retrievers who otherwise may be labeled "hard to adopt" or "unadoptable" by ordinary standards. Some of our Sanctuary Goldens are only with us until they become well enough to be adopted, or until that "special" home is found. Others will receive love and care here at the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives.

No Golden Retriever is ever turned away from Almost Heaven because of age or health. Each Golden here is considered a valued member of our "family."

Please note: Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc., is a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization based in West Virginia and is not affiliated with any other organization having the same or similar name.

G.R.I.N. ~ Golden Retrievers in Need Rescue Service, Inc.

G.R.I.N. was incorporated in 1992 by a group of golden enthusiasts who recognized the need to find good homes for the countless goldens who are euthanized each year for lack of a loving home with a caring family. The number of unwanted pets filling shelters, pounds, and humane societies is staggering, and the fate of these animals is, at best, depressing. The overwhelming fact is that almost 38% of these dogs are purebred. Thankfully, there are many other purebred enthusiasts who also realize the need to aid their own, and they are networking with us in an effort to help alleviate the burden that shelter workers are faced with daily. We are proud to continue the work they began.

Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota ~ RAGOM

Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota, Inc. has been rescuing Golden Retrievers since 1985. It all started with one homeless Golden Retriever whose time was up at a shelter. Hank and Jane Nygaard took her in and after getting her spayed and all of her vaccinations they found this lucky Golden a new home. After the first Golden there always seemed to be another that needed to find a home. That is how RAGOM was started.

One of our very own Golden Friends,
Susannah Charleson
has published a new book!

We are so proud of our very own Golden Friends Rescue member, Susannah Charleson! She has written a new book called SCENT OF THE MISSING: Love and Partnership with a Search and Rescue Dog.

SCENT OF THE MISSING is about Susannah's relationship with Puzzle, who she trains from puppyhood to become a highly skilled search and rescue dog. It is truly "CSI "meets "Marley and Me": Susannah warmly and articulately addresses both the human/animal connection as well as the true crime angle. She underscores why, despite the latest technological innovations, search dogs remain a critical and unique aid in disasters (like Chile and Haiti) and for finding runaways, Alzheimer's patients, and helping to solve kidnappings and homicides.
