Golden Friends Rescue is a unique rescue. We are a tax exempt charitable nonprofit organization working to build networking bridges between shelters and Golden Retriever rescues. Our members are located all over the U.S. and overseas. We work as a go-between to help move Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes out of kill shelters and into reputable, established rescue organizations. We are willing to assist with adoption fees from the shelters; arrange transports, and cover intake fees to the rescues, where necessary. Our goal is to ensure as many Golden Retrievers as possible find their way to their forever home. We do this by assisting the shelters and the larger, established rescues with their adoption processes. Our History: Golden Friends Rescue was begun by a group of concerned Golden Retriever lovers, to help Goldens in need. In January 2008, Pamela Patton, who lives in puppy mill central, was presented with a Golden puppy who was in need of a better life!! The puppy was living in a rabbit cage, in freezing temperatures, in a dark barn, and was all alone! Pam quickly contacted her Golden forum friends and they in turn raised the funds to spring this poor little guy from this horrible situation!! One of the members of our group adopted the puppy, reimbursed the group, and named her new puppy Travis. The money that was left over after we rescued Travis was would put with additional funds we were able to raise so we would be prepared the next time we heard about a Golden in need. Our group enabled this one puppy to have a wonderful life. Something that was not in his future before Pam came along. Several months before our group helped Travis find a new life, a few members of the forum group funded the rescue of three Amish puppy-mill golden puppies. These three girls were placed with GRRI-NJ. All three went on to find their forever home. Technically, that was the real beginning of our group.
